Frequently asked

Common questions.

Quick answers to the things most people ask. If your question isn't here, email us — we'll add it.

Yes. Every feature — all 19 calculators, expense tracking, voice expense entry, receipt scanner, bank statement import, investment tracker, document vault, outflow management, payment reminders, widgets, iCloud sync, and exports — is completely free. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no ads.
Tap the microphone icon in Expenses (or the Voice Expense quick action on the Dashboard) and speak naturally — for example, "Spent 450 on fuel", "Paid 1200 for internet bill", or "Bought laptop stand for 999". The app uses on-device Speech Recognition to extract the amount, category, description, and date automatically. A preview lets you tap any field to adjust before saving. Tap "Re-record" to discard and start fresh. The feature works offline and no audio leaves your device.
Yes. Say "Hey Siri, add expense in Finance Toolkit" — Siri will ask what you spent on. Speak your expense naturally and it saves silently in the background, even if the app is force-quit. You can also use the short names Finance, Toolkit, Money, or FT. Additionally, long-pressing the app icon shows Home Screen Quick Actions for Voice Expense and Add Expense.
No. The app works 100% offline and does not require a sign-up. Your data stays on your device. If you enable iCloud sync, your data syncs through your personal Apple iCloud account — we never see it.
Finance Toolkit uses Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store. As long as you're signed in to the same Apple ID on each device and have iCloud enabled in Settings, your calculations, expenses, outflows, payments, investments, documents, notes, salary history, and outflow templates sync automatically. Initial sync can take a minute or two.
Make sure biometric authentication is enabled in Settings > Face ID & Passcode on your device, and that Finance Toolkit has permission to use it. If biometrics fail repeatedly, the app will fall back to your device passcode. You can toggle the lock on or off inside Finance Toolkit's Settings.
Check that notifications are allowed for Finance Toolkit under iOS Settings > Notifications. Reminders are scheduled for 9:00 AM on the day, 1 day before, or 3 days before the due date — depending on your preference inside the app. Notifications require a physical device (they don't fire on the Simulator).
Open Settings > Data Export inside the app to export a full backup as a JSON file. You can save it to Files, iCloud Drive, or share it elsewhere. To restore, use Data Import and choose either Merge (combine with existing data) or Replace (overwrite).
Yes. The app supports 11 currencies (INR, USD, EUR, GBP, AED, SAR, CAD, AUD, SGD, JPY, and DOP). You can change the currency at any time from within Settings, and the change applies instantly across all calculators, trackers, and exports.
The calculators use standard financial formulas (EMI, compound interest, CAGR, etc.) which are universally applicable. Tax calculators currently follow Indian Income Tax slabs (Old vs New regime). For country-specific rules outside India, treat the results as estimates and confirm with a financial professional.
Open Expenses > Scan Receipt and either take a photo with your camera or pick an image from your library. The app uses Apple's on-device Vision OCR to extract the total amount, merchant name, and date, then auto-categorises the expense into one of 27 categories. Everything runs locally — no image leaves your device. If the OCR misreads a character (for example the ₹ symbol as a "7"), the app automatically detects and strips the stray character before saving the amount.
Yes. Go to Expenses > Import Bank Statement and select a PDF or CSV file from your bank. The app parses transactions (UPI, NEFT, IMPS, ECS, and more) and auto-categorises each one using a 300+ keyword engine across 27 categories. You can review and edit categories before adding the transactions as expenses. The app also learns from your corrections — recategorise once and it remembers next time. All parsing happens on your device.
A unified place to monitor all your investments. Track FD, RD, SIP, Mutual Fund, Stocks, PPF, NPS, Gold, Real Estate, Insurance, Bonds, and custom types. Each entry shows total invested (with recurring contributions correctly calculated as months × amount), estimated value, and expected returns with colour-coded gain/loss. Ongoing investments like PPF/NPS/SIP display an "Ongoing" badge with current estimated value. A donut chart shows invested vs returns proportions with the growth percentage at center. Export as PDF or CSV.
Open Documents and tap the add button — you can either import from the Files app or capture directly with the camera. Documents are organised into 9 categories (LIC Policy, Term Insurance, Health Insurance, Vehicle Insurance, Property Documents, Passport, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, and Other Documents), plus custom categories with their own colour-matched filter chips. View "Storage by Category" for a breakdown with progress bars. You can edit name, category, and notes from the detail view, share or delete individual documents, save all to Files at once, or multi-select for batch delete.
Six widgets across Home Screen and Lock Screen: Monthly Summary (expense + outflow totals with savings indicator), Upcoming Payments (next dues with countdown), Quick Expense (month total with top category), Spending Categories (top 5 with proportion bars), Monthly Outflow (Lock Screen), and Scan Receipt (tap to open camera). Long-press your Home Screen, tap "+", search for Finance Toolkit, and pick a size.
Open Settings → Language inside the app and pick from the 9 supported languages: English, Hindi, Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, German, Chinese (Simplified), and Japanese. The language switches instantly — every screen rebuilds in real time without restarting the app. You can also set it to System Default to follow your device's preferred language automatically.
Once you have any data in the app (expenses, investments, documents, etc.), Finance Toolkit automatically requires Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode at every launch and whenever you return after more than 30 seconds in the background. There's no toggle — the lock is governed by data presence, not a setting, so a fresh install skips the prompt. If biometrics fail, the app immediately falls back to your device passcode. A separate dashboard amount-mask toggle in Settings → Security lets you hide amounts behind an eye icon independently.
Email us at toolkitfinance@gmail.com with a description of the issue, your iOS version, and a screenshot if possible. Feature suggestions are always welcome — many improvements come from user requests.
