Scope & who we are
This Privacy Policy applies to the Finance Toolkit iOS application ("the App"), published by the developer ("we", "us", "our"). It covers what happens to data when you use the App.
The App is a personal finance utility offering calculators, expense tracking, investment tracking, document storage, outflow management, and payment reminders. It is intended for personal, non-commercial use.
Data we do not collect
The App is built to function entirely without a backend. We want to be specific about what this means:
- We do not require sign-up, registration, or any user account.
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any identifying information.
- We do not collect your financial data — your calculations, expenses, salary, loan amounts, investments, documents, payment reminders, or notes never leave your device through our systems.
- We do not use analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude).
- We do not use crash reporting tools that send data to us. The App relies only on Apple's standard crash reports, which you control via iOS Settings.
- We do not display advertisements or use advertising identifiers.
- We do not sell, rent, or share user data — because there is no user data for us to share.
Data stored on your device
To make the App functional, certain information is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad using Apple's standard storage mechanisms (UserDefaults). This data never leaves your device unless you choose to enable iCloud sync or export a backup. It includes:
- Saved calculations (loan EMIs, SIP plans, FD maturities, etc.)
- Expense entries with categories and tags
- Receipts you scan (extracted amount, merchant, date, category), voice expense transcripts (processed locally), and imported bank statement transactions
- Investment entries (FD, RD, SIP, Mutual Fund, Stocks, PPF, NPS, Gold, and custom types)
- Important documents you store in the App (insurance policies, ID cards, property papers)
- Monthly outflow records and salary entries
- Payment reminders and due dates
- Notes you create within the App
- App preferences (selected language, currency, appearance, biometric lock toggle, iCloud sync preference)
If you delete the App, this data is removed from your device. If you have enabled iCloud sync, your iCloud copy persists according to your Apple iCloud settings.
iCloud sync
If you enable iCloud sync (an optional feature), the App uses Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store (NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore) to synchronise your data across devices signed in to the same Apple ID.
What this means in practice:
- Your data is transmitted directly between your device and Apple's iCloud servers.
- We do not operate any servers and do not receive a copy.
- The data is stored within your personal iCloud account and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- All stores sync automatically: calculations, expenses, outflow, payments, investments, documents, notes, salary history, and outflow templates.
- You can disable iCloud sync at any time from iOS Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud, or by signing out of iCloud.
Permissions we request
Face ID / Touch ID / Optic ID — biometric authentication
Used to unlock the App at launch and after returning from the background (when data is present), and optionally to unmask amounts on the Dashboard. Biometric data is handled entirely by iOS through Apple's Secure Enclave and is never accessible to us. We only receive a success/failure result. If biometrics fail, the App falls back to your device passcode via Apple's standard authentication APIs.
Notifications
Used only for local payment reminders that you create within the App. Notifications are scheduled and delivered by your device. No data is sent to or from any server. You can disable notifications anytime in iOS Settings > Notifications > Finance Toolkit.
Camera & Photo Library
Used only when you scan a receipt or import a receipt image, or when you capture a document for the document vault. The Receipt Scanner uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to extract text — no image or data is sent to any server. You can grant or revoke access at any time from iOS Settings > Finance Toolkit.
Microphone & Speech Recognition
Used only when you activate the Voice Expense Assistant. The feature uses Apple's on-device Speech Recognition framework to transcribe what you say into an expense entry. No audio or transcript is sent to our servers. Speech processing may use Apple's servers depending on your iOS settings; this is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can grant or revoke both Microphone and Speech Recognition access at any time from iOS Settings > Finance Toolkit.
Files / Document access
Used only when you explicitly export data (PDF, CSV, JSON backup), import a backup file, import a bank statement (PDF or CSV) for transaction parsing, or import documents into the document vault. The App reads and writes files only with your direct action, and all parsing happens on your device.
Third-party services
The App does not integrate with third-party analytics, advertising, social media, or tracking SDKs.
The only external services involved are those provided by Apple Inc. as part of the iOS platform:
- iCloud Key-Value Store — for optional sync
- LocalAuthentication framework — for biometric unlock
- UserNotifications framework — for local reminders
- Vision framework — for on-device OCR (Receipt Scanner)
- Speech framework — for on-device voice transcription (Voice Expense Assistant)
- PDFKit — for on-device bank statement parsing
- WidgetKit — for Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets
- App Store — for distribution and updates
These are governed by Apple's own privacy practices, available at apple.com/legal/privacy.
Children's privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). Since the App does not collect personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a minor's data has somehow been provided to us, please contact us — though as explained above, we maintain no user data.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights under privacy laws such as the EU's GDPR, the UK's UK GDPR, California's CCPA/CPRA, and India's DPDP Act 2023. These typically include the right to access, correct, or delete personal data held about you.
Because we do not collect or hold any personal data, there is nothing on our side to access, correct, or delete. However, you retain full control over the data on your device:
- To export your data: use Settings > Data Export inside the App (JSON backup).
- To delete your data: use Settings > Reset inside the App, or delete the App from your device.
- To delete iCloud data: sign in to your iCloud account and remove the App's data, or disable iCloud sync in iOS Settings.
Security
While no system is perfectly secure, we apply the following measures:
- The App uses Apple's standard data protection on iOS, which encrypts on-device storage when your device is locked with a passcode.
- Optional biometric / passcode lock adds an extra layer protecting access to the App.
- Screenshot and screen recording prevention is enabled on sensitive screens (amortization, receipt scanner, bank import, expense and payment forms).
- A privacy screen auto-hides content when the App moves to the background.
- iCloud sync uses Apple's encrypted transport and storage.
- The App has no network code beyond iCloud — there is no API to attack and no server-side database that could be breached.
You are responsible for the security of your device, your iCloud account, and any backup files you export.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change how the App handles data (for example, if a future version adds an optional online feature), we will update this policy and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we will also note them in the App's release notes on the App Store.
Continued use of the App after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
